Terroir:
Domaine Vacheron’s vineyards are located in the Sancerre appellation of the Loire Valley. The vineyards are primarily situated on silex (flint) soils, with some plots on caillottes (hard limestone). This unique terroir imparts a distinct minerality to the wines. The vines are planted on a fault line between silex and limestone, enhancing the complexity and structure of the wine.
Viticulture:
The estate practices certified organic and biodynamic farming. The vineyards cover 47 hectares, with the Sauvignon Blanc vines ranging from 30 to 60+ years old. The grapes are hand-harvested into small 20 kg boxes to preserve their integrity.
Winemaking:
Fermentation is carried out with natural yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged on fine lees in a combination of tanks, foudre (large wooden vats), and French oak barrels. This method helps develop the wine’s complexity and depth while preserving its fresh, vibrant character.
Tasting Notes:
Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Blanc is noted for its bright citrus and green fruit aromas, including grapefruit zest and green apple. The palate is lively and crisp, with flavors of lime, gooseberry, and a pronounced flinty minerality. The wine has a high acidity, providing a refreshing and clean finish.
