Terroir:
The vineyards are located in Souvignargues, nestled between the Cévennes foothills and the Mediterranean. The terroir is diverse, comprising sandstone, clay, red earth, and clapas, which contribute to the wine's complexity. The climate benefits from warm days and cool nights, with maritime influences that help hydrate the foliage in the mornings.
Viticulture:
Mas Lau practices biodynamic and organic viticulture. The vines are cultivated without synthetic chemicals, weed killers, or fertilizers. The vineyard management includes plowing to aerate the soil and an airy goblet pruning method to ensure good air circulation and sunlight exposure. The yields are kept low at 35 hl/ha to enhance the quality of the grapes.
Winemaking:
The winemaking process is non-interventionist. The Grenache Blanc grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts. No oenological inputs or sulphites are added. The wine is aged for 8 months in half-muids (large wooden vats) to develop its character and complexity.
Tasting Notes:
"Mélina Blanc" presents a beautiful golden yellow color with a sparkling hue. The nose offers aromas of white-fleshed fruits such as pear, quince, and peach, complemented by floral notes of mimosas and broom. On the palate, the wine is well-balanced with a minerality that enhances its fresh and vibrant profile. The flavors of pear and yellow flowers are pronounced, with a long and complex finish.
