WINERY: Mas Lau
GRAPE
Ex-sommelier turned winemaker Laurent started the domaine 2008 with a single hectare. Originally from Nimes, his family used to be paysan farmers. His grandfather was a goat farmer and his father grew fruit.
VINEYARD
On the first foothills of the Cévennes, with a breathtaking view of the Pic Saint-Loup, is this domain created by Laurent Bagnol. An exceptional terroir that benefits from the Languedoc climate, and benefits from the freshness of the mountains. Here, we seek to make local wines, and also to preserve biodiversity, so we work as simply as possible, without synthetic products, without weedkillers, using biodynamic agricultural practices. This cuvée comes from old Carignan vines for a wine full of freshness and character.
Work in the vineyard: The vines are plowed to aerate the soil which goes facilitate biological life and master herbs. An airy goblet pruning and disbudding that will allow a good passage of air in the stump and better sunshine for minimize treatments.
Soils are made of sandstone, "shimmering" limestone, rich in shells of molluscs, bryozoan and echinoderm debris, marls Valanginiennes.
WINEMAKING
Vinification: Manual Harvest, Indigenous Yeast, Maceration 2 weeks as a whole bunch, without oenological input and without sulphite. Ageing: 7 months in vats + bottle aging
TASTING NOTES
A beautiful fruity wine. Both on the nose and on the palate, we discover lovely notes of Morello cherries, small red fruits and spices, all with a lot of freshness and very silky tannins.
