Terroir:
The Nero d'Avola grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards around Salemi, in the Province of Trapani, located in the north-western part of Sicily. The vineyards sit at an altitude of around 250 meters and are composed of a combination of soil types, which include clay and limestone. This region benefits from a Mediterranean climate with significant temperature variations between day and night, contributing to the depth and fragrance of the wine.
Viticulture:
The vineyards have been managed organically since 2005, focusing on sustainable farming practices. The vines are trained using the Guyot system, which helps to ensure the quality and health of the grapes.
Winemaking:
The grapes undergo maceration on the skins for 8-12 days, followed by racking and completion of malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for six months, with 75% in stainless steel tanks and 25% in 2nd or 3rd fill French oak barrels. This process helps to maintain the wine's freshness and aromatic profile while adding subtle complexity from the oak.
Tasting Notes:
Da Vero Nero d'Avola offers aromas of ripe black fruit with a hint of spice. On the palate, it presents rich plum and bramble fruit flavors, along with savory and herbal notes. The wine has soft tannins balanced by fresh acidity, leading to a long and satisfying finish.
