Terroir:
Envínate Benje Rojo is produced from vineyards located in Santiago del Teide on the northwestern volcanic slopes of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of around 1000 meters, benefiting from the Atlantic climate with an average annual rainfall of 550 mm. The soils are predominantly volcanic, which contributes to the wine's distinctive mineral character.
Viticulture:
The vines used for Benje Rojo are between 70-100 years old and are farmed organically without the use of chemicals. The vineyards are untrained and free-standing, allowing the vines to express their natural vigor. The main challenges in viticulture include winds from the Atlantic and Africa and fluctuations in humidity. Harvesting is done by hand to ensure the quality of the grapes.
Winemaking:
Each parcel of grapes is vinified separately using a mix of concrete tanks and open tubs. About 75% of the fruit is pressed directly off the skins, while the remaining 25% undergoes skin contact for 14-40 days. The wine is aged for 8 months, with 60% in concrete tanks and 40% in old French barriques, on fine lees without battonage or sulfur addition. The wine is bottled unfiltered.
Tasting Notes:
Envínate Benje Rojo presents a complex bouquet of dark berries, blackberry, mulberry, and black elderberry, with additional notes of pomegranate, yeast, ground black pepper, and floral hints. On the palate, it is vivid with lively acidity, savory mineral undertones, and a crisp tannin structure. The wine offers a slender yet engaging profile with good freshness and a pure, animating character.
